We offer a variety
of scanning services; including Flat Bed, Film Scan and Digital Studio Scanning.
we can help you with all of your scanning and image digitazing needs.
In
order to best serve your scanning needs and to accommodate each
specific
scanning
request
we ask
that you
be
prepared
to
provide the
following
information when placing a scanning order.
| What are your output size
requirements? |
| |
Physical size: ie 8x10, 16x20, 20x30
etc. |
| |
|
| What are your DPI (dots
per inch) requirements? |
| |
100 DPI, 200 DPI, 300 DPI, etc. |
| |
When discussing DPI issues, be aware (depending on your output method,
or how you're going to use the scan) that bigger isn't necessarily always
better. If you're unsure of your DPI needs we suggest you consult one
of our Digital Specialists. |
| |
|
| What file format will work
the best for your specific needs? |
| |
TIFF
Tagged-Image File Format (TIFF), is used to exchange files between
applications and computer platforms. TIFF is a flexible bitmap
image format supported by virtually all paint, image-editing, and
page-layout applications.
We suggest this format for most printing and design
needs.
|
| |
JPEG
Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format is commonly used to
display photographs on the World Wide Web and other online services.
JPEG format supports CMYK, RGB, and Grayscale color modes, but
does not support alpha channels.
JPEG retains all color information in an RGB image
but compresses file size by selectively discarding
data thus a smaller file size is attained. You
should be aware, however, that the loss of image
quality is possible with this compression process.
We suggest this format for scans that are earmarked
for web usage or Powerpoint presentations and etc.

Output
We have many customers who bring us their
files already scanned and prepped for printing. In
order to help serve you better we offer this list of
some basic file requirements for our various output
devices.
| Print Output: |
| |
Lambda
We request that files be saved as RGB
and in TIFF, EPS, or Photoshop (PSD) file formats
and set up at 200 DPI, final output size. In postscript
programs set page size at actual output size. |
| |
D-Print
Save files as RGB in TIFF or JPEG file format at 300 DPI, final output
size. |
| |
Giclée
Save files as RGB in TIFF file format at 300 DPI, final output
size.
|
| |
Kodak
Picture Maker Express Printer
Save files as RGB in TIFF or JPEG at 400 DPI at final output size. |
| Film Output: |
| |
35mm Slides or Black and White Negatives
Save files as RGB in TIFF, EPS or JPEG format at 4000 x 2660 pixels
or for postscript pages at 7.5 x 10 inches. Remember the slide
mounts will mask off a portion of the slide image. Please take
this into consideration when designing layout or requesting output.
You should generally allow 1/2 inch (.5) of space around all sides
of your document. |
| |
4x5 Transparencies or Black and White
Negatives
Save files as RGB in TIFF, EPS or JPEG format at 3950 x 3150 pixels
or for postscript pages at 7.5 x 10 inches. |
| |

Archiving
As a general rule, we archive every image we restore and scan for
Lambda or Giclée output. We do not archive images brought
in on disk (or via other media) for output. If requested,
we will archive other scans or files at no charge.
We have established
a search fee of $6.25 which
we apply to print requests of archived images.
To avoid this fee be sure you ask for your scans
or retouch work to be saved to a CD which you can
then bring back whenever you need more prints.
